There has been a lot of discussion regarding the rules of the FBA sanctioned Sonny’s Invitational. The Sonny’s executives want the winners of the Lakeland Pigfest (Jack’s Old South, GC and Serial Grillers, RGC). Initially it was decided that no KCBS or other sanctioning body’s winners would be invited in order to promote FBA and its contests and entice teams to compete in FBA contests who were from out of the area. Then other teams of the year and winners of big contests throughout the US.
Bob Youngblood made a motion that the FBA make no changes to the qualifying guidelines for entry into the Sonny’s Invitational Contest at this time. Steve Brumm 2nd.
Bob withdrew his motion, Steve Brumm withdrew the 2nd
When it comes to any contest, The FBA BOD has been determined that the Florida BBQ Association is really only the sanctioning body and will only be facilitating the Sonny’s Invitational contest and that Sonny’s can invite whoever they want. It doesn’t mean they’ll all come.

Sheila and Frank Jones resigned, not knowing that a leave of absence was a option. Sheila & Frank would like to come back and have their resignation be considered a leave of absence.
Steve Brumm, the rep manual says a rep who resigns can ask for reinstatement and must be voted on by the reps. If the reps vote majority yes, then it will go to the Board for a vote.

Late Entry Procedures: There was a late entry at Madeira Beach, “Baddest on the Bone”. As the end of entry time came when it hit 5 after the clock was turned over. A team arrived late, Gary said “Ida you will have to make a ruling” Clock was 25 seconds past the final turn in time. The team put the box down anyway and left unhappy. Ida marked the box “Late Entry” and set the box aside. The entry was not put on a tray for judging and all identifying numbers were removed. At the end of judging, Gary took the box to put on the grazing table. However because it was a full box, it was given to the volunteers. No one knew who owned the box.
Bob Youngblood made a motion that a letter be sent from the board to all reps that no box be accepted when it is late. The team is to take it away with them. Motion withdrawn.
Dennis Schmitz commented that he has never run into this issue because the teams know that when the clock is down, the box is deemed a “Late Entry” and is not to be judged. It is not an entry. It is not to be accepted. The Team is to take it back with them.
Judges Seminar Cost:
The National BBQ News is the only perk of membership. We need to raise the membership dues and charge more for the Judges seminar. Current membership is $35.00 annually, but the NBBQN is $1.75. This equates to a monthly cost to FBA of $1,300. Paypal charges another $1.32 or more depending on the amount of the transaction. Jim will contact Audrey Evans who publishes the BBQ Times and see what kind of deal she will make for us.
